And Another Thing

It's not just splendour that is missing from the well-planned garden city I spend much of my life in. Spontaneous outbursts of gypsy music are pretty thin on the ground as well. Whereas in my street in Budapest on a Friday evening in late May:


At home you'd need to make an application in triplicate for a license to do that. The application would probably need to go before a tribunal and might, if you were lucky, be decided upon within six to eight months.

  1. And the fiddle player is top-notch, on top of it all. He tone and technique are excellent. That's great.
