 On the subject of supermarket automation, this is cheering, if true:

    1. I suppose it would be even more marvellous if they'd just left things as they were. I gather in parts of America now they have had to bring in counters with all the goods behind them and old-fashioned serving clerks, because of the change in the law that means under a certain amount theft isn't prosecutable. Which takes me back to men in brown coats serving my mother at Cullen's in the dim past.

    1. Do I remember you writing a post about how complex and slow it was to buy your place in Lichfield? We are finding the ways of English house buying and selling so fraught.

    2. Absolutely. Buying the flat took 7 months. The house took less time but had various other complications, including the vendors still moving stuff out 5 days after we'd bought it. Fraught indeed.
