Book 1 - 2018: Henry Green, Loving

My younger brother once recommended Henry Green ridiculously highly, which is why I chose this book. Not hating it, but not overwhelmed either. Will go into more detail about how it struck me when I have more time, but in the meantime would hugely welcome comments from others who have read the novel.

  1. I read this recently, my third Green novel. I didn't enjoy it as much as "Back" and "Concluding", but it did nothing to put me off Green who I still think is a terrific and original writer. "Concluding" has an outcropping of menace and strangeness, and "Back" of existential confusion, which really stayed with me; "Loving" struck me as more of a straightforward novel - but still very well written and elegantly put together.

    1. I plan to expand this post when we've finished unpacking & the local heatwave has passed. I'm still a bit baffled by many readers' enthusiasm for Green, not that I hate him. I'll give those others a try - one day

  2. Is this the start of "proper" book blogging? I hope so.

  3. Sorry, mate, it will continue to be what I'd like call a miscellany but might less charitably be called a muddle. But there will be regular mumblings about books that I read
