Something Lovely
In an article about why there will be no more series of The Detectorists (something I very much hope is not true), this lovely piece was mentioned. I think it is beautiful.
Thank you Zoe. It will take me a while to recover after listening to the simple beauty of three wonderful voices and not much else. Quaint frocks and, mercifully, no attempt to project or 'sell' anything. In a way, quite shocking.
I I am glad you like it too. I am fond of unadorned traditional music, not only of the British variety. I don't know if you have heard of Marta Sebestyen and Muzsikas but if not you might like some of their things. Marta Sebestyen has a wonderful voice
I'm enjoying catching up with your blog, after a period of exile from the blogosphere. A friend of mine is obsessed with The Unthanks and a couple of years ago, she spent the weekend in Northumbria at a singing workshop run by the Unthank family (I believe that Mrs Unthank cooked the refreshments). My friend came back full of praise for both the hospitality and the music making. It sounded wonderful.

ReplyDeleteEven the name "Unthank" is so great. I'd love to be "Mrs Unthank"; I wonder if I can persuade my husband to change his name.
DeleteWho exiled you, by the way? I will go and beat them up, if they try to do it again.
