The Wisdom of Ringo

Generally speaking, Ringo is rather discounted within the pantheon of Beatle braininess. However, there is a moment in Living in the Material World, Martin Scorsese's documentary about George Harrison, when he articulates an often overlooked truth:

Fame is much sought, but those who achieve it don't always realise they've made a Faustian pact until it's already too late. "That's the deal," as Ringo says. There is no going back.

  1. Yes, an interesting insight. As the sole surviving Beatle* I hope we hear more of his wisdom. I've always thought his singing wasn't bad e.g. 'With a little help from my friends' - although I'd be happy if I never heard 'Yellow Submarine' again and even his best performances don't rival Beatles hits like this one where he's safely confined to the drums: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjm28jTZDw8.

    1. Totally agree re Yellow Submarine, which I've just looked up and discovered was not written, as I'd thought, by Ringo, but by the one you regard as dead. I now hope you're right. Anyone who unleashed that on the world has/had it coming to them.

    2. Those harmonies on If I Needed Someone are quite Crosby Stills et cetera, don't you think?

    3. I always loved "Lady Madonna" and anyone who doesn't has no soul. And I enjoyed "Sentimental Journey". So there.
