Burke and Wills - the Final Hours

The doomed journey of Burke and Wills interests me a lot - in fact, this blog became rather Burke and Wills focussed for a while last year, as you can see here and here and here. The story is one of the things I am mildly obsessed by, which is why I was glad to see this cartoon the other day - it's always good to have the things you take a bit too seriously made fun of, I think:

  2. David says that he thought it was a horrid tragedy too, brought to life by "The Dig Tree" - have you read it? http://www.amazon.com/Dig-Tree-Insanity-Discover-Australias/dp/0767908287

  3. It's a great sad book - made even sadder by the fact its author died either just before or just after it was published, at a very young age.

  5. 24 hours? That is crazy. Mind you, I remember an occasion when my friend GP Shera (see blog at right) and one of his friends went in a car to Melbourne from Canberra and straight back again, 'to see what it would be like'. I imagine it was pretty awful. Ah youth.
