Motheaten

Having been literally overwhelmed by requests (if you consider 17 requests, not including friends and
relations, as being 'overwhelmed', which I choose to do, because it makes me happy), I present a second chunk of 'Holding On', a novel of mine that, despite the best efforts of Sheil Land, a London literary agency, failed to find anyone willing to publish it (for details, see here).

It occurred to me, after my first post on the subject, that it might be more sensible to keep all the bits of the book in one place. Therefore, I've started a blog specially for this purpose. In honour of my Senior Marketing Executive, Denis Wright, I have named the blog Fifty Shades of Grey Moth, although the book itself is actually called "Holding On" (I fear we are straying somewhat into White Knight from Alice Through the Looking Glass territory here :"The name of the song is called "Haddock's Eyes" [said the White Knight]. "Oh, that's the name of the song, is it?" Alice said, trying to feel interested. "No, you don't understand," the Knight said, looking a little vexed. "That's what the name is called. The name really is The Aged Aged Man." "Then I ought to have said, "That's what the song is called?" Alice corrected herself. "No, you oughtn't; that's quite another thing! The song is called Ways and Means; but that's only what it's called, you know." "Well, what is the song then?" said Alice, who was by this time completely bewildered. "I was coming to that," the Knight said. "The song really is A-Sitting on a Gate; and the tune's my own invention.")

With any luck Denis's suggested title will attract all sorts of curious riff-raff, eager for something a great deal more exciting than I have produced, thus increasing the site traffic and convincing me that the book is much loved by all.

I will add new bits from time to time and I will post to say I'm doing so on this blog. However, anyone who wishes to can avoid all the other extraneous wittering that appears here and go straight to updates of the novel by clicking on this link.

  1. I'm very happy about this. Thought you should know. Bordering on giddy. Can't wait to read more. (I resisted the urge to use an exclamation point, as I was taught to do....but I was ....this close....)You will, however, permit me a controlled "hooray."

PS: Please don't tell anyone I was almost giddy. It is not good for my manly image. Everyone will think I was jumping in place an clapping little, quick claps. Which, of course, I was not doing. Because that would be...unmanly. Anyway, I have to go now...

  2. PPS: I was once told by a publisher that one of my novels is (direct quotation): "wonderful, exceedingly well-written and emotionally and intellectually powerful" -- but, too long. I feel your pain...

  4. Yes indeed! Newcastle this weekend, but maybe the next one would work. I love this book of yours, and I particularly like the serial form.

  5. Oh I see. So I'm to get the blame if this all goes belly-up, am I? Well, I'm going to take all the credit if it doesn't – and it won't. I am enjoying it very much. It's building nicely. I also like the layout on the new site, which suits it admirably.

I was going to say, with a questionable book title like that, you'll need the spam detector to be fully operational, but it might be fun to leave all the pØrn sit referrals there in the comments section. If you're game.

    Cheers.
